Yanzi’s feelings on going Congo
February 16, 2006

Yanzi is leaving for Congo today, and she expressed her feelings and thoughts on her mission trip yesterday while in Singapore. She said she is feeling scared, but at the same time she is happy that she will be able to help the least fortunate. She will be coming back on the 23rd. Let us await for her safe return.
“Last year I heard we are going to visit Africa. Africa?? This country only gives me the feeling of wild animals, and scorching sun. And this will never be a country I’m going to travel to and visit, because Singapore is hot enough. However, this time round I am not going on sight-seeing, and this trip will really widen my scope.
I knew that people who go to Africa have to inject the Yellow Fever injection. So i went to the public hospital to do so. Oh wow, there is a total of 4 injections need to be taken. I’m a person scared of injections, and so when the nurse approached me with the needle, I only dared to look at my Mum, because on the sight of blood I’ll faint. After the injections(2 on each hand), my arms hurt as if they had just went through a round of boxing. And there is this medicine that I have to take, its really disgusting because it will cause me to lose my appetite. I hate this type of feeling. Why would people take this medicine? I got to ask my sis.
And so I went online to search about information on Congo. I’m indeed surprised that almost every website advise tourists not to go there because theres an internal war going on among their people. Chaos. Around 90000 of the natives had AIDS, and 50% of the population did not have clean water source.
My Dad even called up Warner and told them about the dangers that may be faced. However I told him that I’m scared too, but I really wanted to go there. Why? I’m not sure of the reason as well, and my heart tells me so. I will bring back my experience and videos. When I grow old, I’ll be glad that I made this choice today.” -Yanzi
